Postdoc: Research Associate in Experimental Nuclear Science

The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) is seeking highly qualified individuals as post-doctoral fellows in experimental nuclear physics and related instrumentation R&D.

The NSCL is the forefront facility in the United States for nuclear physics with rare isotope beams and is in the process of developing new research capabilities with stopped and reaccelerated beams. In addition, MSU has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to design and establish the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB).

Nuclear physics research at the NSCL addresses key questions concerning the creation of the elements in the cosmos, the limits of nuclear stability, the properties of nuclei with very unusual neutron-to-proton ratios, the equation of state of neutron-rich nuclear matter as it may exist inside neutron stars, as well as tests of fundamental symmetries and interactions.

NSCL accepts applications for Research Associates in Experimental Nuclear Science on a continuous basis, and completed applications (instructions are provided below) will be kept active and under consideration for opportunities that might arise for considerable periods of time. Applicants are strongly encouraged to indicate their research interests, in addition to referring to specific opportunities listed below, if available.

  • Nuclear reactions and equation of state physics, contact Betty Tsang:

  • Nuclear structure and astrophysics using beta-decay spectroscopy. Contact: Sean Liddick

  • Experimental Nuclear Astrophysics using fast and reaccelerated beams. Contact: Hendrik Schatz

Interested individuals should send a CV and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent directly to:
