Manipulation of Postscript File for Inclusion in Powerpoint or Word Documents

Assume that you have postscript file tommy.ps and you want to include it in a Powerpoint or Word document and have the figure visible on the screen. This can be achieve via Coreldraw 6 as follows:

1. Launch Coreldraw 6; select "start a new coreldraw graphic".

2. Under File, choose import. Select the file. When the "IMPORT POSTSCRIPT" window pops up, select "curves". The figure should appear on the screen.

3. If necessary, rotate the figure as follows: Under Arrange, select transform - rotate.

4. Now export the file. You have two options that I have tested: Windows metafile (preferred), and encapsolated postscript. The follow proceedures worked for me, but I have not tried to optimize them too much.

a. Under File, select export. Under file type, select windows metafile. Select the name and directory where you want to export the file. Export the

file selecting "curves". Under Word or Powerpoint, you can insert the

figure under "Insert" then "picture". You can recolor the picture if you

want, changing the colors assigned to various data points or curves.

b. Occasionally, procedure "a." yields a picture which is lacking one of the

boundaries near the edge. In this case, you can select encapulated postscript. On the popup window select "curves, include header, Tiff, 8 bit color, 72 bit resolution, 128 fountain steps, and print color profile". You

cannot recolor the figure and the resolution is poor, but you will be able

to position figure and integrate it well in the document. It will print with

the full poscript resolution.
