MSU adjunct professor Thomas Wangler recently presented a special seven-seminar series devoted to advanced topics in linear accelerators. Wangler, also an affiliate scientist and fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory, covered a range of topics -- RFQs, parametric resonances, beam instabilities (and how to avoid them), and resonant coupling of accelerator structures. More information from the series, including slides that were presented, is available here. Wangler's textbook "RF Linear Accelerators" was published in 2008 by Wiley. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and has taught many courses throughout his career at Duke, Harvard, MIT, Cornell, MSU and elsewhere.
