The Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics (JINA) is seeking a highly qualified individual as postdoctoral fellow to conduct research in experimental nuclear astrophysics at MSU's National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL). For an exceptionally qualified individual, an appointment at the Research Assistant Professor level is possible. The NSCL is the premier rare isotope beam facility in the US and offers unique opportunities for experiments relevant for astrophysical processes in stellar explosions. The experimental nuclear astrophysics program is embedded in JINA, a NSF Physics Frontiers Center, providing an outstanding research environment with close links to theorists, astrophysical modelers, and astronomers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for rare isotope beam experiments on nuclei in the astrophysical r- and rp-processes and will collaborate with JINA members, students, outside collaborators, and technical staff. Experience in experimental nuclear physics, including detectors and electronics is required. Prior experience in nuclear astrophysics is a plus.
