FRIB Theory Fellow

Michigan State University is seeking outstanding candidates for an FRIB Theory Fellowship. The successful candidate will join the nuclear theory group at MSU and will do independent or collaborative high-caliber work on important theoretical problems relevant to research with the future Facility for Rare Isotope Beam (FRIB). FRIB is a top priority in the US nuclear science community and will greatly expand the range of rare isotopes available for study. FRIB Theory Fellows must have great promise for high scientific achievement and are expected to advance into open faculty or permanent staff positions in the field within five years of their initial appointment.

The FRIB Theory Fellowship is a 5-year research position with an initial annual salary of $60k and an annual budget of $5k for travel. Active involvement in FRIB-related theory activities is expected; collaboration with other theorists is encouraged. FRIB fellows have no formal teaching obligations, but they may participate in NSCL committees and graduate student training. The initial 2-year appointment can be renewed for an additional maximum of 3 years depending on the availability of funds and performance.

Applicants should send a resume, including a list of publications, plus the names and contacts of three references to Prof. Bradley Sherrill, Chair of the national FRIB Theory Fellow search committee (careers@frib.msu.edu). The deadline for applications is 4th November 2011.
