Position for SRF Physicist

NSCL is searching for a physicist with experience and interest in Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF). The position can be filled in the Continuing Appointment system at the NSCL or in the NSCL Faculty system, depending on qualifications and an interest of the individual to have regular duties in class-room instruction.

A strong scientific and technical background with organizational skills is desired.

At the present time NSCL is building a superconducting linac to re-accelerate radioactive ions. A vigorous research program is in place including electromagnetic and mechanical cavity design, cavity fabrication and testing, and cryomodule fabrication. We are also involved in niobium material research in collaborations with the School of Engineering as well as cavity design and fabrication techniques with other major national laboratories. The SRF group consists of physicists, engineers, technicians and graduate students.

NSCL has approximately 300 employees, including 28 faculty members and over 100 graduate and undergraduate students. The laboratory currently is making a major investment to allow efficient stopping and reacceleration of rare isotopes produced by projectile fragmentation/fission and separated in flight. NSCL’s state-of-the-art experimental equipment as well as advanced design and machining capabilities make it possible to mount and leading research program with appropriate timeliness.

MSU has been advancing knowledge and transforming lives through innovative teaching, research and outreach for 150 years. Its fourteen degree-granting colleges attract scholars worldwide who are interested in combining education with practical problem solving.
