The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) receives funding primarily from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy and Michigan State University (MSU). In addition to operating the leading rare isotope research facility in the United States, NSCL faculty conduct advanced research in fundamental nuclear science, nuclear astrophysics, and accelerator physics. The research grants and contracts that the NSCL receives require monitoring to ensure that the funds entrusted to the NSCL are used efficiently and in a manner consistent with the terms of the grant or contract. In order to accomplish this, the NSCL operates its own Purchasing operation and uses a customized database application to manage administrative operations. My efforts are primarily in the areas of budget development, expenditure analysis and financial projections. In addition, I work with NSCL staff to ensure that the NSCL procurements and expenditures are compliant with various Federal, State and MSU regulations and policies.
