supernova

admin

Composite image of the remnant of a star that exploded in a supernova about 1000 years ago (E0102-72.3,). Gas has been ejected into space and collides now with the interstellar medium at distances of about 20 light years from the center. The collisions produce radio (red, Australia Telescope Compact Array) and X-ray radiation (blue, Chandra X-ray observatory). X-ray data and optical data (green, Hubble Space Telescope) reveal the distribution of elements synthesized by nuclear reactions in the progenitor star and during the supernova explosion.
