ISF 2.28

Spectrum of the lowest energy band arising from a superdeformed (β ~ 0.6) prolate
shape in 152Dy. Nineteen γ-ray transitions from 602 keV to 1449 keV with an almost constant energy
separation of 47 keV were observed in the 108Pd(48Ca,4n) reaction at 205 MeV. The insert illustrates
the minima in the potential energy surface, corresponding to normal deformation (I), superdeformation
(II), and hyperdeformation (III). Adapted from [Nol88].
