The design of the setup is underway and is being optimized by detailed simulations. Several solutions are being considered for the vertically oriented, superconducting magnet system. The diameter of the system will be about 3–4 m with a beam injection radius between 0.75–1.5 m. The magnet system will house a cryogenically cooled vacuum chamber, filled with helium at a typical pressure of 10 mbar or less. The solid beam degrader and monitors are inserted radially.
Various options are being considered, amongst them sector fields for stronger transverse focusing, different field shapes, and multiple degraders.
