Research Experience for Undergraduates in Physics and Astronomy

Audience: Current undergraduate students

Where: NSCL, MSU Physics and Astronomy

How long: June 3 - August 9, 2008

What: College students can spend the summer at NSCL, gaining research experience under the direct supervision of a faculty member. Projects include theoretical or experimental work in accelerator physics, astrophysics, or nuclear science. The NSF-sponsored REU program also features weekly seminars by researchers in a variety of advanced fields, trips to other laboratories, and social events with other students and faculty. You will present your summer’s research in a seminar and a paper.

Cost: Free. Students receive a $4500 fellowship, room and $10/day partial board. Some travel expenses can also be reimbursed.

Application requirements: Open to undergraduate students, preferably sophomores or juniors, who are U.S. citizens. Applicants should have completed an introductory physics course and have completed or be taking an advanced physics course. They must be recommended by one of their professors and must submit a transcript of their grades. Applications are due by March 12, 2008.
