Marie Curie has unfinished work!

The ghost of Marie Curie has been spotted in the pit of the S3 vault, floating through the magnets and checking things out. Normally ghosts haunt the places where they lived, but Marie must have hitched a ride with one of our French colleagues.  She hasn't been to the states in almost 80 years and probably wondered how things have been progressing.  No doubt she's shocked to see our radioactive sources locked up and handled with protective equipment instead of stored in a desk drawer.
Perhaps she wanted to see the results of her pioneering effort as a woman in science.  Not only was she the first woman in France to earn a doctorate, but she was also the first female professor at University of Paris and the first person to wear a dress when they accepted the Nobel Prize.  If she wanted to see more women in physics and chemistry, she's certainly haunting the right place.
I tried to talk to her, and ask why they picked the word "radioactive", but she simply put her finger to her lips and floated up the beam line towards the cyclotrons.  Maybe she just came here for the same reason as every other user... there's more work to do.

Ghosts in the machines

Sometimes, when I'm doing a survey in the vaults, I suddenly feel very cold. Then I realize I'm standing next to the air vent.
