PG Hansen Theory Postdoc

The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) is seeking a highly qualified individual for a P. Gregers Hansen Postdoctoral Fellowship in nuclear reaction theory, with a specialization in the microscopic theory of many-body direct reactions. The applicant is expected to carry out state-of-the-art work in direct reaction theory relevant to the research at the NSCL now and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) in the future. The applicant should have a demonstrated record of collaboration with experimentalists in rare-isotope science, and prior experience constructing and utilizing microscopic effective interactions within the framework of multiple scattering theory.

The NSCL is a world-leading laboratory for nuclear science and is operated as a national user facility for research with rare isotope beams funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). It is home to forefront experimental and theoretical research programs in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear chemistry and accelerator science with more than 70 Ph.D. students at any time. FRIB is being established as a user facility and is supported by the Department of Energy Office of Science. When completed in 2022 it will vastly expand the range of rare isotope beams available to the research community and offer tremendous potential for scientific discovery.

Details about NSCL postdoctoral appointments are provided at www.frib.msu.edu/employment. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the area of nuclear reaction theory. Applications will be reviewed starting 15th Nov 2017. For immediate consideration, please go to www.careers.msu.edu and search and apply. Applicants should also email a cover letter with a CV, a list of publications, a research plan/vision statement (no more than two pages), and the names and email addresses of at least three references to Careers@frib.msu.edu. MSU is committed to achieving excellence through cultural diversity.
